Mission work among Brazilians of Pomeranian origin

Pomeranians for Jesus 25 years ago, MASA worker Rev. Baldino Hübner launched a church-planting initiative in the desolate mountain region in the State of Espirito Santo, where some 120,000 people of German, i.e. Pomeranian origin lived in great poverty, lacking any prospects for their future. Life here has been strongly impacted by superstition and occultism.

A few weeks ago, in October, about 350 brothers and sisters from several mission churches gathered for a joyous thanksgiving service. The occasion was Pastor Hüber’s retiring and ending his service. Everyone is extremely happy when looking back on what God has worked in these 25 years. The churches and mission posts number 450 members today, which gave reason to thank the Lord! The successors are Valerio and Sandra Kurth, of Pomeranian descent, who are themselves “fruits” borne by this mission work. The Kurths got their theological education at the seminar in Ijui and have been passionately committed to their ethnic group for nearly four years. Another couple, Laércio and Juliana Rogge, will soon finish their studies in Ijui and will then take over Pastor Baldino Hübner’s work in 2010. Adornette and Anila Weige, long-time missionaries in these mission churches, continue their faithful service. It is a big sacrifice and means quite something when people venture into this region of their own free will. God does bless such dedication, indeed!
„Pomeranians for Jesus“ is the name of a new evangelistic movement. Further churches are to be founded in hitherto unreached places using creative ways, such as radio programmes and distribution of DVDs featuring evangelistic films. MASA would like to support this initiative!
